Five Resilience Elements for Nonprofits Recovering from the Pandemic
This workshop will present a strategy that nonprofits can use to help their organizations and the communities they serve recover after exposure to extreme stress - such as what's been created by the pandemic. Based on the work of a worldwide panel of experts, five key elements of resilience have been identified - sense of safety, ability to calm, sense of self-efficacy and community efficacy, connectedness, and hope. Practical ways to deal with each will be presented - for instance, reflection questions to assess the nonprofit’s culture of safety; evidence-based exercises (progressive muscle relaxation) and a meditation (Loving Kindness) to reduce implicit bias and prevent burnout; and tips for integrating resilience elements into daily work life. Retired CSUN Social Work Professor Alejandra Acuna will present the resilience elements, and will engage participants in active discussion about how they can be applied to pandemic recovery and in ongoing organizational routines and practices. This is the final event of VNR’s two-year Recovery Initiative. The free workshop will be held by Zoom on Thursday November 10, 2022 from 4-5:30 pm.
